The coronavirus pandemic has severely affected all businesses, but restaurants are amongst those suffering the biggest losses. The best way for restaurants to survive during these difficult and uncertain times is to adapt to the online food delivery market. Yet, online delivery solutions are not always profitable for restaurants, with food delivery platforms sometimes charging up to 35% in commission fees.

The shift towards deliveries

eStart4, the new online ordering e-platform, is here to help with the survival of the restaurant sector. With no commission fees, restaurants are able to keep more of their profit margins for themselves. Meanwhile, customers are assured that they are ordering directly from restaurants.

If you own a restaurant and do not have a delivery solution set up, then now is the ideal time to promptly jump on the food delivery ship. Even if your restaurant already has a delivery system in place, this pandemic is the perfect opportunity to improve upon it and optimise operations for third-party food delivery.

The “new” normal

Inside restaurant doors, the hustle and bustle commonly associated with Lisbon’s vibrant culinary scene has been replaced with a more controlled and restricted environment. To help prevent the spread of coronavirus, restaurants have adapted to a new normal by introducing socially distanced seating plans, additional disinfecting between customers and wearing masks inside.

Abiding by local restrictions has resulted in restaurants seating and serving fewer customers at the same time. With this decrease in restaurant profits, some have had to close their doors for good, while others have chosen to open only during peak hours in an attempt to cut costs.

The uncertainty of the current pandemic means that it is unknown when these restrictions will come to an end or if these Covid-19 controls are indeed the new normal, making online delivery orders for restaurants even more important.
